No arrests made in MMS-linked Punjab double murder case

No arrests have been made in the double murder of a mother and her teenaged daughter in Harmilap Nagar near here, though Punjab Police are probing various leads, including a possible link to an obscene MMS of a girl a few months ago, police said.

The victims, Shikha, 45, and her daughter Priyanka, 16, were found murdered on Thursday in their first-floor house in Harmilap Nagar locality of Baltana in Zirakpur, 15 km from here.

"We are looking into various angles in this case. The murder does not seem to be the work of a professional killer," Superintendent of Police (Detective) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said.

The victims were the mother and sister of a girl, Anchal, who was accused of making an obscene MMS of a friend in September last year in connivance with two or three other friends after their relations soured. The MMS of a semi-nude girl was circulated by Anchal and others in Panchkula town, adjoining Chandigarh, to take revenge on their estranged friend.

The police have questioned the son of a jeweller and also Shikha’s husband Pradeep Jindal with connection to the case. Anchal had, in a complaint to the police, alleged that her father used to threaten her. “Anchal suspected her father and the jeweller’s son for the crime. We are investigating all angles,” a police official said in Zirakpur.

The bodies of the mother and daughter were found by a neighbour on the first floor of their house on Thursday. The mother used to run a grocery store on the ground floor of the building. Within a few weeks of the MMS scandal, two persons had allegedly attacked Anchal in Panchkula.  She was injured and admitted to a  hospital here.
