Support for SC/ST to buy stationery

Delhi government on Monday decided to extend financial assistance for purchase of stationery to SC, ST, OBC and minorities students in primary classes and better the monetary support to students from classes 6th to 12th.

As per Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the Delhi Cabinet decision was taken to improve the existing literacy rate amongst the weaker sections which has been very low compared to the overall literacy rate.

“The Cabinet has decided to extend benefit of financial assistance for purchase of stationery to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and minorities also in primary sections.

“It has also given its nod for enhancement of monthly financial assistance to students in standards 6th to 12th under these categories,” said Dikshit, adding that her government is sensitive to the needs of all weaker sections of the society.

Primary students
As a result, henceforth, financial assistance for purchase of stationery to students studying in primary section, standards 1st to 5th, will be provided Rs 100 for ten months from the current financial year. This step will help improve their studies.

The financial assistance of Rs 45 to students of classes 6th to 8th is being enhanced to Rs 100 per month and in respect of classes 9th to 12th it is being enhanced from Rs 75 to Rs 200.
