Four men shot a 30-year-old man after he resisted their robbery attempt in outer Delhi on Wednesday, police said.

The victim, Surjan Singh, works as a collection agent in a private gas agency. The four assailants were on a motorcycle.

The robbers threw chilli powder at Singh’s face before snatching a bag containing Rs 7 lakh. Singh was returning to office with the money when the robbers intercepted him in Sultanpuri. Singh’s condition is said to be critical.

Along with his friend Saroj Mishra, Singh had gone to collect payment from customers in central Delhi. After collecting payment to the tune of Rs 7 lakh, the two were heading to their office on a motorcycle.

“Then four unidentified persons on a motorcycle intercepted them at Kirari in Sultanpur. One of the robbers fired at Singh twice,” a senior police officer said. Two bullets pierced his chest.

The robbers fled with the bag immediately, following which Mishra rang the police. Singh was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where doctors removed the two bullets.
