Bagan go down to Sporting

Sporting Clube de Goa took the wind out of Mohun Bagan with a briliant 2-1 win in a 15th round I-League match at the Nehru Stadium here on Thursday.

Keita Boubacar and Ogba Kalu scored for Sporting while Rakesh Masih scored the lone goal for Bagan.

Sporting Clube were in command in the first half but could not translate their superiority into goals.

The first scare for Bagan came in the fifth minute when Sudan striker James Moga took everyone by surprise with a long ranger that goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee managed to parry away.

Sangram again came to his side’s rescue minutes later, thwarting Anthony D’Souza’s fierce volley.

There was no respite for Bagan and Sangram as Sporting continued with their build-ups. Despite dominating much of the first half, Sporting failed to find the net before finding success four minutes after the hour. Boubacar rose high above the Bagan defence, heading in Anthony’s corner kick into the goal.

Bagan, however, bounced back quickly with Masih slotting home the equaliser with a powerful right-footer.

Just when the contest appeared meandering towards a draw, Kalu uncorked a surprise, scoring the winner eight minutes from time.

Prayag win

Prayag United scored a facile 1-0 win over bitter foes Chirag United Kerala at the Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata.

Prayag’s foreign recruit Kayne Vincent scored the winner in the 14th minute as the Kerala outfit struggled to come to terms. Prayag now have 25 points while Chirag United Kerala remained in the relegation zone with 11.
