A middle-aged man and his two sons have been arrested for killing a businessman in outer Delhi, police said on Thursday.

Netrapal Lal, 51, Sonu, 24, and Sandeep, 20, of Amar Jyoti Colony had critically injured Amit Rana, 27, who had a jeans-dyeing unit at Badli Industrial Area, after a heated argument over a loan of Rs 20,000 on January 4, said B S Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer).

He was later rushed to Saroj Hospital and Heart Institute in Rohini sector-14, but succumbed to his injuries on January 7. “The trio was arrested from their hideouts in Badaun district, UP on charges of killing Amit,” Jaiswal added.

On January 4, Amit, along with his friend Naveen Rana, visited Netrapal’s house at about 10 pm. They asked him to pay back the loan given by Naveen to Netrapal three years ago. “A quarrel took place when Netrapal refused to pay back. Netrapal and his two sons even assaulted Naveen and hit Amit on his head with a baseball bat when he intervened,” Jaiswal said. The accused then locked their house and fled after they came to know that Amit’s condition was critical.

They were arrested after police raided different villages in Badaun district. During interrogation, the trio revealed that they had assaulted the duo with the motive to eliminate them and get rid of the loan.

“Naveen kept mum for quite some time and did not contact them for repayment. However, when the victim, along with his partner, visited them on January 4, the accused assaulted them,” Jaiswal said. Police have also recovered the baseball bat from the trio’s possession.
