21 hurt as bus plunges into ditch

 Two persons have sustained serious injuries in the mishap. The bus was bound to Mangalore from B C Road via Mudipu. As many as 21 persons have been injured in the incident. The injured are Vasanth Bangera (56), Puttuswamy Gowda (45), Hajiramma (30), Sinama (7), Sakeera (12), Ubed (16), Mohammed (50), Misriya (16), Sharif (23), Naseema (22), Chetan (17), Kavitha (16), Jayamma (43), Suresh (26), Ganesh (15), Sapnaz (15), Mohammed Sinan (4), Rajiya (16).

In the mishap, a three-month-old baby which was thrown inside a bush was miraculously found unhurt. The child is of Rajiya of Bolyaru.

Two persons were caught red handed by the Lokayukta team while receiving bribe at VAT division office at Kaikamba on Friday.  They include Commercial tax officer S Balakrishna and staff Thimmappa Naika. The duo were receiving bribe of Rs 1,200 for giving TAN number for VAT registration for Mohammed Fayaz of Mudipu. It was said that Fayaz who runs Disha industries had applied for TAN number on August 12. The duo were demanding bribe for the TAN number. As per the demand, Fayaz had already paid Rs 500. However, the duo were caught red handed while receiving remaining Rs 500 by Balakrishna and Rs 700 by Thimmappa Naika was paid.
