Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park in Pilikula was abuzz with chirpy children giggling and talking loud. As the programme scheduled for the day was dance events little children with their anklets on painted a merry picture at the venue.

On the second day of Bal Bharath Srujanotsav-2012, the children had a merry time as the tiny tots and the older kids danced on the stage portraying the tradition of the State they belong to. The concept of unity in diversity had come alive at Srujanotsava.

On Dr Shivaram Karanth stage, the children performed various dance forms like Kuchipudi, fishermen’s dance, Durga dance, Mohini Attam etc spreading the sweet fragrance of rich Indian culture.

There were two kids, both aged about seven years, from Hyderabad who took the audience by surprise with their Kuchipudi performance. The members of Vadodara Bal Bhavan, Gujarat displayed the tribal folk dance of Gujarat where Lord Krishna teases Gopikas.

A group of boys and girls from Kerala danced to a folk song of Kerala tribe, which was based on the theme of offering prayer to ‘Naga Kanye’. Children from Churney Road Bal Bhavan, Mumbai again brought the folklore to the stage as they danced to a folk song of fishermen community. The members of Goa Bal Bhavan mesmerised the audience and other children as they sang ‘Yaya Mayeyo’ and rocked the stage.

In fact, the children in the audience section too accompanied them by lending chorus in the end.

Kalbalia

Before presenting Rajasthan based Kalbalia folk dance, Apoorva from Aurangabad Bal Bhavan said that the dance was usually performed by the villagers in Rajasthan during happy moments. The villagers dance Kalbalia when it rains in Rajasthan or when the sun sets in the dessert. For these eight children from Aurangabad team the happy occasion for performing this dance was Srujanotsav itself. The lively performance by the girls set the stage ablaze.

The dances were performed in two sessions in the morning and in the afternoon. Team from Haryana staged Dekhni dance, the team from Daman staged Machi folk dance, and children from Bhuvaneshwar staged the classical Odissi dance. Various teams will perform on Tuesday too.
