'Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights need of the day'

World is growing day by day and even countries like Honduras can be a potential threat to Indian economy, opined Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Institute Bangalore Director S M Jamkhandi.

Presiding over the inaugural function of the one-day awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights organised by the MSME Development Institute Mangalore branch at SDM Law College on Monday, he said that new innovations are coming up every day and in such a market, the importance of Intellectual Property awareness is need of the hour.

 “To compete in the market and with companies from other countries, a thorough knowledge about the Intellectual Property Right is essential”, he said adding that the Government is projecting India as a knowledge hub. But to attain that position, the role of Intellectual Property Right is very important.

He also informed that Government has various schemes to help the entrepreneurs, especially woman entrepreneurs. “Financial aid which includes subsidy, reimbursement etc would be provided by the Government for the eligible persons who can take India to a front position among the other countries. India could control the world economy along with China, if we are well planned and work hard,” he said.

NITKOfficiating Director Professor G Umesh was the chief guest during the inaugural function. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute Deputy Director, Bangalore S N Rangaprasad, DSIA President J Jayaraj Pai, KSIA President B A Nazeer, Udupi DIC Joint Director S G Hegde, SDM College of Business Management Principal Dr Devaraj K, SDM Law College Principal Dr B K Ravindra were also present on the occasion.

Discussions and classes on different subjects like Understanding IPR, Indian Patent Law and procedure, Relevance and Nature and Utility of IPR etc took place during the awareness programmes. Narendra Bhatta of Intellectual IP Services, Assistant Controller of Patents and Design R Devan, Consultant Dr Sitaram Sujir and SDM Law College Principal Dr B K Ravindra conducted seminars on various topics.
