Ravi Shankar to perform for last time in B'lore on Feb 7

Music lovers in Bangalore will have the opportunity of their lifetime, with world renowned sitar maestro, Pandit Ravi Shankar set to perform for the last time in this cultural hub on Feb 7.

In the event titled 'Farewell to Bangalore,' the 91-year-old maestro of Hindusthani music will perform along with his daughter Anoushka Shankar for the first time in India, for a cause.

The concert is being organised by the Premanjali Education Trust, a voluntary organisation working with homeless children, to raise funds for its various projects.

Ravi Shankar and Anoushka's performance will be a part of the seventh "Premanjali" festival,and scheduled to  held on Feb 7 at Palace Grounds.

The trust has organised similar programmes for the past six years and the earlier events had received overwhelming response, Premanjali Foundation Chairman, A Balakrishna Hegde, told reporters here today.

"We received tremendous response for Hindustani and Carnatic vocalists Bhimsen Joshi and Balamuralikrishna jugalbandi last year," he said.

Ravi Shankar's concert would be the "mother of all events," Hegde said, adding, "Heaven is going to descend on Feb 7".

Premanjali Foundation was proud to hold the only concert of Ravi Shankar in India this year, he said. "This is the first time that both father and daughter will come together to perform at a concert in India," Hegde said.

A theatre performance entitled 'Devi Mahatmya' presented by noted dancer Mallika Sarabhai was the first in the festival series held in 2002, he said.
The Premanjali Trust works with homeless children and is involved in their upbringing for the past 15 years.
