Networking parents to know their kids

Educational institutions now have new ways to be closer with the parents of their students.

A case in point is the novel method adopted by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshawara (SDM) Educational Society. Online Student Informational Database linked to , a website which can be accessed through administrational software is an outcome of this effort.

Online student informational database is an abstract of administrational software- Educational Enterprise Resource Planning and Management System, which can be used by students as well as their parents.

Speaking to the City Herald, the head of the software development cell and SDM Educational Society Chief Financial Officer Lawrence Pereira said that both students and their parents get a password to enter the website.

They can get information about the attendance, marks, library, fees, and examination time table and about other activities. The software can be used for online exams as well wherein the students can get their marks within half an hour.

The design

Lawrence Pirera said that the institution took 5 to 6 years to develop this administrational software. The software cell comprised 4 staff and 4 other persons for testing and implementation. The facility has already been implemented in 40 affiliated institutions and has been a boon for the parents as well as students. “As per our knowledge, this is an unique software,” he said.

Good response

Giving details about the database, II year MCJ student Madhav opined that it is a very useful website. “We need not seek any help from the college staff or administration members. It’s really student friendly”.

The online student informational database was inaugurated at Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara College in Ujire on January 17 and is being used by 40 schools and colleges affiliated to SDM Educational Society. Next year, the facility will be extended to all the 48 schools and colleges run by the Society.

“The response is inspiring from the students, parents as well as from the teaching staff. The credit goes to SDM Educational Society President Dr D Veerendra Heggade and Ujire SDM College Principal Dr B Yashovarma. Their inspiration always motivated us,” said Pereira.
