HC slaps contempt notice on BJP MP

The High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of criminal contempt notice to BJP MP Chandregowda D B, after a complaint was lodged against him with the Registrar General of the High Court.

Taking note of Chandregowda’s adverse comments on the judiciary to the media, Chair person of the Congress Legal and Human Rights Cell, C M Dhananjaya and Judge N K Sudhindra Rao of the Special Lokayukta Court had written to the Registrar General seeking initiation of contempt proceedings.

The Division Bench headed by Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar ordered issue of criminal contempt notice to Chandregowda, after taking cognisance of both the complaints which sought the initiation of suo motu criminal proceedings against him.

Invites court’s ire

Following the rejection of Yeddyurappa’s bail application in the Special Lokayukta court in a land denotification case and his subsequent arrest, Chandregowda made the statement to the media saying: “Judgments of the court are made at Raj Bhavan.”

He also said that judges were acting for the sake of publicity. Chandregowda has been directed to appear before the Court on February 21.
