Following sharp criticism from its own party members that the Central ministers from Karnataka have remained ‘inactive’ in their own State, the AICC on Tuesday assigned the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the Central schemes to the four ministers.

AICC general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Madhusudan Mistry has written to Union ministers S M Krishna, Veerappa Moily, Mallikarjun Kharge and K H Muniyappa asking them to implement programme like MGNREGA, enforcing FRA (Forest Rights Act), Unorganised Workers Act, Domestic Violence Act, RTI Act and other programmes and schemes in the divisions assigned to them.

The ministers have been asked to meet the party workers of the districts, hear their grievances, receive their representations if any, and take up the matter with the State administration.
The ministers will have to organise at least two meetings a month in two districts.

The fixing of responsibilities is an outcome of the meeting held by Mistry in Bangalore a few months ago, where the State party leaders had expressed their grouse against the Central ministers and their non-involvement in the party affairs of the State.

In the letter, Mistry has said the ministers will be given “ample time to strengthen the party in the State provided they are given the responsibility. After discussing with the leaders of KPCC, it is proposed by the AICC to allot the revenue divisions to each of the Central minister from Karnataka.”

It is, however, interesting to note that the ministers who are all facing opposition of some kind or the other have all been assigned divisions away from their home turfs or regions where they do not enjoy any clout.

The divisions

* Krishna: Bangalore division – Shimoga, Davangere, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Kolar, Bangalore City, Urban, Rural and Ramanagar

* Kharge: Belgaum division – Hubli-Dharwad city, Dharwad Rural; Haveri, Gadag, Bijapur, Bagalkot, Belgaum City and Rural, and Uttar Kannada

* Moily: Gulbarga division – Bellary City and Rural, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga and Bidar

* Muniyappa: Mysore division – Mandya, Mysore City, Rural, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Chikamagalur, Chamarajanagar and Hassan
