MCD employee shoots student for stealing pet

A Municipal Corporation of Delhi employee was arrested for shooting at a student after his pet dog was stolen at Bawana in outer Delhi, police said on Wednesday.


Karambir, 32, a resident of Bajitpur village in Bawana, was arrested from Kanjhawala in outer Delhi on Tuesday, deputy commissioner of police (outer) B S Jaiswal said.


Karambir told police that he along with his relatives – Monu, Manjeet Leelu and Vineet – shot at 21-year-old student Hitesh, who is also a resident of the same locality on January 19.


Hitesh complained to the police that he was threatened by Monu that he would be killed.


Later Monucame to his farm along with his relatives. “Monu shot at his left thigh and then they fled,” said Jaiswal.


The student was rushed to M V Hospital at Pooth Khurd where he was treated and then discharged. Doctors said the student is out of danger.


When interrogated Karambir told police that he had nursed a grudge against Hitesh because he had stolen a puppy that belonged to them.


“They decided to eliminate Hitesh. According to their plan, Vineet arranged for a pistol and Monu brought a car. They shot at Hitesh with an intention to kill him. He managed survive the murder attempt,” Jaiswal added.


Karambir, a Class XII pass, is currently working as a loader with MCD.
“He is a short tempered, alcoholic man. He is infamous in his locality for his quarrelsome behaviour. He has been involved in two cases,” Jaiswal added.
The other persons involved are absconding.
