7 arrested for stealing vehicles

Seven persons, including two graduates, were arrested from the city for their alleged involvement in separate cases of vehicle theft, police said on Wednesday.

With this, police claimed, they have smashed three inter-state gangs of vehicle thieves and recovered 13 stolen cars and jeeps, seven motorcycles, a scooter and a country-made pistol with two live cartridges. Nineteen cases of vehicle theft in Delhi, UP and Haryana have been worked out.

In the first case, an alleged vehicle thief Harun, 30, and receiver of stolen vehicle Hemender Kumar Chaudhary, 37, a graduate, were arrested from Preet Vihar on a tip-off on January 21. Nine stolen cars and an SUV were recovered from them.

With the arrests of the duo, police claimed they solved seven cases of auto theft.

Munna Khan, 30, and Zakir, 32, were arrested from Nand Nagri on January 17 in a separate case with police claiming that they have solved five other cases of vehicle theft. Four cars, a motorcycle and a scooter were recovered.

In the third case, a graduate, Sandeep Singh, 21, Vikram Singh, 23, and receiver of stolen vehicles Wahid Hussain, 25, were apprehended from Rohini and Jahangirpuri on January 30. Police said they are searching for more vehicle thieves who are connected with  the two graduates.
