JOIN USIndia figures prominently in the Asian Tour Calendar but the country’s flagship event, the Indian Open, is still without dates.
The Indian Open was held in October last year, and in November the year before that. But for 2012, there seems to be no date available for November and there are only two weeks free in October between an event in Korea and Malaysia.
The Asian Tour announced its full 2012 schedule and it has four events in India -- the Avantha Masters (Feb 16-19), the SAIL Open (Feb 23-26) and the Panasonic Open India (March 29-April 1). The three events in the first half of the season apart, India also hosts the Indian Open.
The Asian Tour will sanction no fewer than 26 tournaments over the next 11 months spreading from the Far East in Japan and Korea, via its successful collaboration with the Japan Golf Tour and Korean Golf Tour, through to Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and India, which is in partnership with the PGTI, and all the way to Europe in Switzerland thanks to a long-standing alliance with The European Tour.
The Asian Development Tour, celebrating its third year, will host a minimum of nine tournaments up from five in 2010 and eight in 2011.
Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han said that various discussions are currently in progress to add several other tournaments.
“Our 2012 schedules for both the Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour will provide numerous playing opportunities for our members to compete at the highest level and also at the developmental stage in Asia,” Han said.
“Our well established and proven Tour structure will continue to deliver world-class performances and tournaments throughout our new season as well as unearth new champions and players through the tournaments on the Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour.”
