Tomar nails gold

Army's Varsha Tomar won the women’s trap gold medal at the 55th National shotgun championship at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting range here on Friday.

Tomar shot an impressive 20/25 in the finals. She was at third position in the qualifying round with a score of 60/75. Seema Tomar of Army and Shreyasi Singh of Bihar scored 64 each in the qualifying round and then shot identical 14 in the finals to be tied for the second place.

However, in the tie-shoot, Shreyasi moved up with six shots to win the silver medal while Seema with five shots settled for bronze.

Olympic quota holder Shagun Chowdhary, however, finished in sixth place with a score of 73 (60+13).

In junior women’s section, Shreyasi won the gold medal with a score of 64/75. She was followed by Varsha Varman of Madhya Pradesh, who took silver with a score of 61 while Ria Rajeshwari Kumari of Punjab with 47/75 garnered the bronze.

In the men’s section, Anwer Sultan led after the first day with 71/75 followed by Zorawar Singh (70) and Anirudh Singh (69). Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Mansher Singh, Gautam Gyanchandani and NRAI president Raninder Singh tied with a score of 67 each.

Remaining 50 birds will be fired before the finals on Saturday. In junior men's event, Manavdityha Singh Rathore of Haryana was leading on the first of trap event with 64/75.
