The State Congress, which is in a combative mode has decided to up its ante against the BJP government apart from making steadfast preparations to face the next Assembly elections.

KPCC, which convened a preliminary meeting a day before its first general body meeting of the year scheduled to be held on Saturday, finalised the resolutions to be passed during the meeting.
As many as 40 senior party leaders participated in the meeting, where it was decided to go through with an ‘agitation-oriented policy’ by taking up issues related to the people, Assembly segment wise.

The meeting also arrived at a consensus to take up three to four important issues: the non-appointment of the Lokayukta, non-implementation of the Lokayukta mining report, and government’s ineffectiveness in handling the drought situation.

Partymen said that the general indication of the meeting was that there would be no leadership change in the party until the elections, and that the Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities, which have been sidelined till now, had to be taken into confidence.

Sources said that some of the sub-sections were being ‘annihilated’ and that Congress should stop focusing only on backward communities, if it was serious about winning the next elections.

Senior leaders including Jaffer Sharief, H K Patil and R V Deshpande are said to have strongly voiced their discontent over the party’s present way of functioning. The leaders were candid about the present trend in the party, which showed no signs of unity among the leaders.
