Trees axed sans proper permission

Last Updated 08 February 2012, 19:56 IST

Two trees were felled by the BBMP’s forest cell on Nandidurg Extension Road in Jayamahal on Wednesday, following a request from local corporator M K Gunashekhar.

Gunashekhar said that he had received many complaints from residents that the trees could fall anytime and cause damage.

“Acting on the request, the range forest officer identified the old trees and gave permission for felling them,” he added.

A local resident, who complained to the joint commissioner of the area, said that BBMP was felling trees without proper permission.

Shade
“These trees were huge and were providing shade to the entire road. But the joint commissioner was unaware of the move to axe the trees” the resident said.

K C Shivashankar, joint commissioner (East), said that he came to know about the incident through a local resident who had called him up to lodge a complaint. “I sent BBMP Prahari team to the spot. I have summoned the RFO concerned to give an explanation,” he added.
