Palike seeks HUDCO services

Last Updated 15 February 2012, 19:50 IST

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to rope in the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) to make the City slum-free.

Mayor Sharadamma, her deputy S Harish, chairpersons and members of various standing committees held a meeting with the HUDCO authorities here on Monday on the project to provide shelter to the urban poor at a minimal cost.

Harish said the Palike wants the HUDCO as consultants in construction of cluster houses. The Palike has already been constructing houses for the backward communities under the 22.75 per cent scheme. Henceforth, it would invest on cluster houses, in which the HUDCO has expertise, he said.

The Palike has made budgetary allocation of Rs 150 crore to construct houses for the urban poor, especially the backward sections of society.

It is learnt that the HUDCO has taken up some works under the BDA, and now the BBMP too wants to benefit from its quality services. However, unlike the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), it is not exempted under the 4G of the Karnataka Transparency Act and will have to participate in tendering process.
