The authorities are verifying the application. The selection of franchise companies to get the fingerprints of the applicants and for distribution of ration cards is under progress.

Four franchise companies have been selected in the district. This includes Madikeri—2, Virajpet and Somwarpet—one each. The distribution of the ration cards would begin within a month.”

The food inspectors will visit every house to verify the documents. The officials will verify RR number, collect details on family members.

Before the food inspectors visit the house, the family would be intimated on the visit. After collecting the details, the franchise centre would be asked to collect the thumb impression of the applicant, said the Deputy Director.

The online applications for the ration cards were invited in November. There is no last date for submitting the applications. Those who do not have computer facility can submit the applications to the Gram Panchayat office. The application form should have details on name of the family members, date of birth, residential address, RR number, mobile number etc. The online applications can be submitted through http://ahara.kar.nic.in
