Two men, posing as postmen, robbed a woman of jewellery at her residence near Dhobi Ghat at Banashankari on Friday.

The victim, Trupti Ghorphade, wife of a software engineer, said the door bell rang around 11 am. When she opened the door, the men entered the house on the pretext of delivering a post.

They gagged her, using her veil and decamped with jewellery weighing about 80 grams, she said. Her husband was at work, while her grandmother and the maid were on the first floor of the building. The suspects were aged between 25 and 30, she told the police in her complaint.

Wife killed, man hurt

Miscreants bludgeoned a 26-year-old woman to death and injured her husband in front of a scrap dealer’s shop near Timmareddy School at Beretana Agrahara on Hosur Road Friday morning.

The victims are Chamaraju, 40, and his wife, whose name and other details are yet to be ascertained, the Parappana Agrahara police said.

The couple from Tamil Nadu had sought permission from the scrap shop owner Kadiriyappan, 44, to sleep outside his shop on Thursday night.

Around 1.20 am, Kadiriyappan came out when he heard some noise. He saw the couple lying in a pool of blood and the miscreants fleeing. “The miscreants, who were searching the couple’s bag, fled after they saw me,” he said.

The police said the couple were shifted to Nimhans immediately, where the woman was declared brought dead and her husband is being treated. Body of Chamaraju’s wife has been shifted to the mortuary in Victoria Hospital, the police said.

The police have registered two cases - one attempt to murder and murder.
