Last Updated 01 September 2009, 17:15 IST

Price of tur has gone up to Rs 100 per kg. Officers of the department are working out modalities to hold tur shandy so that consumers get the product at a lesser price than in open market.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister H Halappa has directed commissioner and secretary of the department to work out the modalities. Commissioner H R Srinivas said that the programme is yet to be chalked out.

The government has been selling three varieties of rice through rice shandies in Bangalore.  The government buys rice directly from rice mill owners avoiding middlemen.
