Cauvery PUC register facile victory

 An unbeaten knock of 78 (8x4, 2x6) by opener Ashun Kumar A Shetty and his 83-run opening wicket partnership with Dheeraj (36, 4x4) helped Sri Cauvery PU College register a facile nine-wicket win over Government First Grade College, Mandya in the second round tie of the Dell- KSCA inter-collegiate knockout cricket tournament conducted by the KSCA Mysore Zone at the Gangothri Glades grounds here on Sunday.

Batting first, Government First Grade College, Mandya scored 131 all out in 28 overs and Cauvery PU College replied with 132 for one in 20.4 overs.

In the other tie, Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering, Mysore scored a six-wicket win over St Philomena’s College, Mysore and entered the prequarterfinals with this win.

Brief scores (second round): GFGC, Mandya: 131 all out in 28 overs (Mahadev Shetty 29; Bhuvan Ponappa 2-24, Roshan K 2-21, Gaurav Gowda 2-14) lt to Sri Cauvery PU College: 132/1 in 20.4 overs (Ashun Kumar A Shetty 78 n.o., Dheeraj 36).

St. Philomena’s College, Mysore: 84 all out in 20.5 overs (Mustaq 31; Somanna 2-11) lt to VVCE: 87/4 in 21.4 overs (B Rahul 39, Anush 25 n.o.; Shashank 4-24).
