The wife of a pilot of Kingfisher Airlines died a day after trying to commit suicide, police said on Sunday. Police have registered a case of dowry death following the complaints of her parents.

Chavi tried to hang herself in her room in Bharat Nagar in north-west Delhi on Wednesday. However,  her husband Shravan Rastogi broke open the door and took her to a nearby hospital.

Chavi was shifted to Intensive Care Unit where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday. Both Shravan and Chavi are in early twenties, had got married two years ago.

The body was sent for post-mortem, the police said. “In medical reports we found that she died of injuries on her neck,” said a senior police officer.

The victim's parents approached police and alleged that she was being tortured and harassed by Shravan and her parents for dowry.

“My sister was regularly beaten up by her husband and they used to demand money. They forced her to commit suicide,” alleged Sumit, deceased’s brother.

The victim's family and relatives on Sunday staged a protest outside police station demanding Shravan's arrest.

“We have filed a dowry case against Shravan and her parents on the basis of victim's parents’ statement but it is too early to say anything. We are piecing the sequence of events together and the investigation is on,” said Romil Baniya, additional deputy commissioner of police (north-east).

No arrest has been made as there is no evidence to prove the allegations made by the victim's parents, police said.
