Write Here Write Now’, an inter-collegiate literary-cum-media fest conducted by MES College of Arts, Commerce and Science, was recently hosted on the college campus.

The one-day fest included a host of events that brought out the communicative skills of the participating students. The festival saw an impressive turnout, with plenty of colleges across the City taking part in the events.

The theme of this edition of the festival was ‘Social Awakening’. Events like ‘Pic-N-Speak’, a twist on the traditional ‘Just-A-Minute’ competition, brought out the student’s awareness on current affairs. Rather than being given a topic on a chit, students were shown a picture and then had to speak impromptu about it.

Other competitions that were held included ‘Product Launch’, in which students had to come up with an introduction on how the BMTC was introducing services for the physically handicapped. RJ Pavithra judged the event. There was also an event in which students were judged based on how well they wrote press releases.

In the photography competition, students were told to go out and take a picture of any event or instance in Malleswaram, which highlighted the theme ‘Social Awakening’.

Plenty of innovative responses came up. Ujvala and Suma, both second-year BSc students who took part in this, said that the event was fun. While Ujvala took a picture of a pile of garbage in front of a wall with a ‘No Littering’ sign stuck on it, Suma had taken one of the Metro Rail work going on near the college. “We were given the topic on the spot, but it wasn’t too tough, as the topic was quite wide. We had a good time,” said Ujvala.

The other interesting event was the street play, which was hosted in the quadrangle of the college. Participating teams had to catch the attention of the audience without any mic.

Colleges like Mount Carmel and MSRIT took part in the event. The team from MSRIT was quite attention-catching, portraying a fight between a husband and wife.

Another one of the events was ‘Mock Press Conference’, which touched on a variety
of issues ranging from the recent movie ‘Dirty Picture’ to the sensational porngate scandal. Eventually, the overall trophy for the fest was given to Mount Carmel
College.

Pankaj, a third year BA student who was also one of the organisers of the festival, said that the experience was a learning, but he also had a good time.

“It’s been quite an effort, and I’ve had quite a few experiences, especially in terms of meeting people. However, the outcome is actually better than I expected. The turnout has been quite good,” he said.
