Congress says opposition playing politics with NCTC

Last Updated 22 February 2012, 13:05 IST

The Congress Wednesday accused the opposition of finding fault with the proposed anti-terror hub for ''political considerations'' even after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assured seven chief ministers that their concerns will be addressed.

"The opposition is attacking the (National Counter-Terrorism Centre) NCTC due to political considerations,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters.
He charged the opposition is raising the bogey that "federalism is in danger" without “caring for the context".

“The centre is talking to the states...their reservations  on the NCTC will be addressed,” said Tewari.

The prime minister Tuesday wrote to the chief ministers of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Gujarat, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha assuring extensive consultations and redressing their concerns but stopped short of putting the decision on hold.
