Consulates to improve ties with Slovenia

Last Updated 27 February 2012, 20:06 IST

Slovenian consulates have been opened in four major cities in India in order to boost bilateral ties between India and Slovenia, said Janez Premoze, the Slovenian ambassador in India.

The four consulates, functioning in Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, will concentrate on activities in economic, academic and cultural fields for the purpose, he added.

“Slovenia has progressed greatly in automobile and medical science fields, from which India can benefit. It can also use the tremendous progress achieved by India in the field of Information Technology.”

The two countries can work together in the fields of basic and medical sciences. The Indian Institute of Science has already agreed to cooperate with his country in this regard, he added.

He admitted the economic crisis in Europe has affected Slovenia and said his country is treating the situation positively. “The time is ripe for Slovenia to expand its relations beyond Europe. The country could tackle the crisis better than any other European countries,” he added.

Slovenia is looking for huge investments from India. There are several beautiful locations in his country for outdoor shooting and the Indian film personalities, who visit Europe, could utilise the locations, he suggested.

A consulate official in Bangalore said a show would be organised in the city to explore the possible ties in the field of industry.

Activities are being taken up to boost cultural ties. Mamatha Sagar’s poems are being translated into Slovenian language, while she is introducing works of many Slovenian poets to Kannada readers, he added.
