Mixed response for 'Janaspandana'

The State government, after reviewing the performance of its flagship programme ‘Janaspandana’ between September 2008 and February 2009, has found that the officials in the coastal district of Udupi have disposed of a mere 27 per cent of the applications received from the public.

Janaspandana is a programme aimed at taking administration to people’s doorstep. Officials of all departments at a hobli centre should conduct the programme every Saturday.

After conducting the programme for five months, only 4,767 applications were received in Udupi. Of these, only 1,312 are disposed of. It is followed by Kodagu and Bidar districts where application disposal percentage is just 28 and 31 respectively. Chief Secretary (in-charge) Vatsala Watsa, after reviewing the programme, in a circular dated May 5, has asked the district officials to conduct Janaspandana in a selected village of a hobli now on. She has directed all district administrations that if holiday is declared on a Saturday, it should be conducted on the following first day of the week (on Monday).

On the overall performance, the review has revealed that the State administration has secured distinction with 80 per cent disposal of applications. A total of 6,70,736 applications were received by conducting 17 Janaspandanas till February 2009. Of these, 5,34,218 are disposed of.

By disposing of above 96 per cent applications, Haveri, Gulbarga and Chitradurga districts top the list. Among the districts to receive highest number of applications is Bellary with 1,03,043 and the lowest is Kodagu with 2,864 applications. Revenue division wise, Bangalore division stands first in both receiving application and disposing of application (90 pc), followed by Mysore, Gulbarga and Belgaum.
