<p>Natyasaraswathi Kuchipudi Academy’ presented 4th Akhila Karnataka Kuchipudi Nrithyotsav 2012 at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram recently. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The two-day dance festival had lecture demonstrations as well as dance performances by artistes from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka.<br /><br />The cultural performances on the first day were delayed by one-and-a-half-hours.The colourful evening was kickstarted by Vedantam Radesyam, a legend in kuchipudi art and a faculty member of Siddendra Kalakshetram Kuchipudi village.<br /><br /> He chanted Ambaparaku, a traditional kuchipudi prayer, with his extraordinary nattuvangam. The dancers performed to this with rangapooja, a traditional consecration of stage as written in natyashastra, which included punyavachanam, rangoli, dhoopa, deepa, flag-waving and a ganesha puja. <br /><br />Then Bhumika and Aaditi presented Tandava Nritya Kare, an invocation song in praise of Lord Ganesha. Next up was a wonderful dance recital by Anupama Bhushan. She impressed the audience with her extraordinary beauty and a spectacular presentation of Ganadhipam Sakalam Ashraye, set in aadi tala and nata raaga. Later, Niharika performed an Annamacharya krithi with ease and dedication. The most exciting performance was by Komal Babu from Hyderabad, who performed rupanurupam, a male performing as Sathyabhama. <br /><br />Next up was a presentation of balagopala tarangam by Namata and Jagati. The skillful girls showcased special techniques on a brass plate. Chaarvi presented a krithi on Mahakali while Deepak performed a tarangam.<br /><br />Preethi, a guest artiste from Hyderabad, performed an authentic tarangam called Nanda Nandana Gopala, which stole the hearts of many. She excelled in her abhinaya skills while describing leelas of Krishna. Her execution of techniques on the brass plate was beautifully adapted.<br /><br />The highlight of the event was a shiva taandava presentation by Manjula and Komal Babu. They performed to a Kannada composition called Kandena Natarajane, which received huge appreciation from the crowd.<br /><br />Guru Vedantam Radesyam was conferred with the Kuchipudi Natyasaraswathi Puraskar, a special award introduced this year, which honours legends in the field. The event concluded with a mangalam by Vedantam Radesyam. <br /><br />Bhagavatula Seturam from Hyderabad and Anupama Mohan from Kerala were the distinguished guests at the event. Nagaraj, a member of the audience, felt that the performances were worth watching. <br /><br />“There were many presentations, right from small kids to much-experienced artistes. Budding artistes can learn a lot by attending programmes like these. I wish it had started on time as performers were made to wait for long,” said a parent of a child artiste. <br /></p>
