Two-year jail term for revenue inspector

Srinivasappa, the convicted, was working as Revenue Inspector for Holur hobli. B N Nagaraj and his three brothers had submitted an application seeking separate khatas for their lands situated at Nugganahalli and Bellambari villages in the taluk. Srinivasappa was alleged to have demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to carry out the task. A case was registered at Lokayukta police on Nov 2, 2006 under the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Srinivasappa was caught by Lokayukta sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 in front of the taluk office, Lokayukta superintendent has informed.

According to the complainant Nagaraj, he had submitted an application to the tahsildar seeking separate khatas for the lands on Sep 12, 2006 and the tahsildar had asked Srinivasappa to consider the application and prepare a report. Srinivasappa, who demanded Rs 5,000 for the work later agreed to accept Rs 2,000.

The District and Sessions Judge has also slapped a fine of Rs 7,000 on the convicted.
