Residents rained water woes on Mayor Sharadamma when she visited K R Puram constituency on Wednesday.

Sharadamma was accompanied by Deputy Mayor S Harish, Leader of the BBMP Council B R Nanjundappa, KR Puram MLA Nandish Reddy and corporators during an inspection of wards 51, 55, 56 and 81 that fall under KR Puram.

Acute shortage

Although, the entire constituency is reeling under severe water crisis, the shortage was found to be acute in Vijinapura. Residents of the ward demanded that the mayor address the problem at the earliest.

Corporator of Vijinapura Sukumar said the water table in the region had depleted and that the borewells had all dried up.

Responding to the residents’ woes, the mayor promised them that new borewells would be drilled and more water tankers would be pressed into service to tide over the water crisis.

Sharadamma had to face similar queries related to shortage of water at Ramamurthy Nagar and Devasandra.

In addition to seeking solutions to water shortage, the residents of Vijinapura asked the Mayor to undertake widening of the road that connects their ward with the Ring Road via Dooravani Nagar in a bid to resolve the traffic problem.

Both MLA Nandish Reddy and the ward corporator told Sharadamma that an action plan for Rs 65 crore had been prepared to widen the 1.5-km road, but that it was awaiting administrative approval.

The mayor directed the BBMP Chief Engineer (Major Roads) to execute the road widening work at the earliest.

The mayor also inspected various development projects being carried out at B Narayanapura, Kaggadasapura, Vijnananagar, Vimanapura and Vibhootipura.
