A mob tried to thrash Rajasthan industry minister Rajendra Pareek on Friday for allegedly not repairing a road in Sikar, his constituency.

Police said four persons from Sikar were killed in an accident on Thursday in Jaisal-mer. They were cremated on Friday in the minister’s constituency. However, the road leading to the cremation ground has been waterlogged for a long time. Locals said sewage is knee-deep on this stretch.

On Thursday night, locals asked Pareek to repair the road but the minister allegedly did not listen to them.

A day later, while the cremation was going on, the minister came to the area in a friend’s vehicle. Pareek also did not bring his escort, police said.

Soon, a mob encircled him and tried to assault him. Some people in the crowd managed to call the police, who rushed in and took the minister out of harm’s way.

Police have taken five persons into custody in connection with the incident.
