Gold prices are soaring high – and so, Delhiites are slowly beginning to move away from the precious metal.

The new love of the town is silver jewellery and ornaments, ranging from simple pieces to heavy designs – that too, at affordable rates.

Silver is a metal that matches every kind of colour and outfit. One can wear silver with traditional attire and even use it as a funky accessory with western outfits.
The fondness for silver has increased in the recent past and so, silver sells much more than gold or any other precious metal. In fact, most consumers possess more silver jewellery than gold. Although gold is considered more precious than silver, the latter is extremely popular due to its uniqueness and affordability.

Ashok Luthra, the owner of ‘Silofer’, a  silver shop in Greater Kailash–I, says, “This metal has always been in fashion  and will always remain in fashion, no matter what. It has that special look and the craze for it is so high that it will always be hot in the market. People of all ages come and buy silver ornaments. It has that rich look which no other metal can have.” He adds, “People still come and buy silver no matter what the price is.”

Presently, silver is being sold for around Rs 57, 000 per kilogram. Ashok has been running the silver shop for the last 34 years and caters to customers who once bought his jewellery as college-going students and have now become grandmothers.

“I just love silver jewellery. It is so affordable and trendy. I indulge in silver as I love the rich look of it, and it blends with any kind of outfit you wear,” says Hina Upadhay, a social work student.

In fact, college students appear to be especially crazy about silver – mainly because they can afford these ornaments with their pocket-money.

The value, variety and styles of silver have certainly managed to make it a bestseller. Silver has a slight luster about it, making it very simple yet fashionable. This incredible attribute can also make silver great for daily use.

Another silver lover, Amrita Saha, a professional, explains, “Silver is extremely affordable and pocket-friendly and looks good as well. Also, it has to be kept in mind that one cannot roam around wearing gold.” Himani Ahuja, a college student, says, “Silver is very convenient to own. I especially like silver jhumkis, rings and earrings.”
Silver has occupied a distinct place in the jewellery market for ages.

This is chiefly because the metal comes with a timeless stylish appearance and unique sheen, which suits every skin tone. Besides, it’s easily available and one of the cheapest metals too. As a result, people from all over the globe have an inclination towards silver jewellery.
