The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) handed over a cheque of Rs 7.5 crore to Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) recently to purchase 30 new water tankers.

The BWSSB had requested for funds from Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike to buy new tankers as the existing 40-odd tankers were not adequate to supply water to the entire City.

BWSSB engineer-in-chief T Venkataraju said they had already placed orders to purchase the tankers.

“There was a delay in the purchase of tankers as Bharat Stage IV vehicles were not available in the market for some time. Now, we have placed the order and expect to receive the tankers in the next 45 days,” he added.

BWSSB owns 40-odd water tankers. In addition, the Board has hired 131 private tankers to supply water (especially in summer) at a cost of Rs 1,650 per day for five trips.

The expenses are met using the Rs-100 crore allotment by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda for water supply in the City.
