Man arrested for supplying illegal firearms

A 29-year-old man was arrested here for allegedly selling illegal weapons to criminals of Delhi and Haryana, police said on Monday.

Jaswant, who is also allegedly involved in land-grabbing cases, was apprehended from Dwarka last Wednesday on a tip-off that a man involved in gun running was coming to the locality, deputy commissioner of police (crime) Ashok Chand said.

Six sophisticated pistols of 9 mm and 7.65 mm bore with 33 live cartridges and a car have been seized, the DCP said. “Jaswant was first arrested in a case of robbery in 2001. In 2005, he was again arrested in a case of cheating. Then he started property dealing in Najafgarh with his brother Pradeep. Police have also declared his brother Pradeep as an active bad character,” Chand said.

In 2010, Jaswant along with his associate allegedly robbed a car from Kapashera. “Pradeep started supplying illegal weapon and Jaswant joined him. Jaswant revealed that his brother used to procure illegal weapons for Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000 and sold it to criminals for Rs 55,000 to Rs 65,000,” Chand said. Jaswant was found allegedly involved in six cases of robbery, cheating, land grabbing and extortion. Pradeep is currently absconding.
