<p class="bodytext">Two people were killed in an accident on the state highway near Puttige bridge in Heeriyadka on Friday afternoon.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Police said that the motorbike riders, who were riding from Perdur towards Udupi, were knocked down by a speeding lorry, killing them on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Varun and Vishwas.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Police said that since the branch of a tree had fallen on the road and a car was parked, the bikers tried to overtake the car but were hit by a lorry coming from the opposite direction. Meanwhile, a bus which was behind the lorry and was plying <br />towards Shivamogga, swerved at the last second in order to avoid running over the fallen bodies but plunged into a small gorge. As a result, the passengers suffered minor injuries.</p>
