Development subspecialities in Radiology: Ramdas Pai

“Radiology as a subject has grown tremendously over a period of time and plays a crucial role in diagnosis. With the progress in radiological technology, there is a change in the role and responsibilities of radiologists leading to further specialisation in this field,” said Dr Ramdas M Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University. 

He was speaking after inaugurating the Musculoskeletal division of the two-day annual state-level conference of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association on Saturday at Fortune Inn Valley View. 

The theme of the conference was abdominal and musculoskeletal imaging. 

Manipal University Pro-Chancellor Dr H S Ballal said that with the explosion of knowledge in the field of radiology there was a need for developing sub-specialties in radiology. 

National President of IRIA, Dr Harsh Mahajan stressed on the role of budding radiologists in taking radiology as a dedicated branch of medicine to serve people rather than viewing it as a means for personal gains.

Dr Raghavendra Bhat, State President of IRIA said that the life members of IRIA ought to play a major role in taking the aims and objectives of the Association further. 

Eminent radiologists – Dr M Naveenchandra Shetty and Dr Balakrishna B V were felicitated for their contribution in the field of radiology. 

A souvenir to mark the occasion was also released by Dr Ballal. Dr Biren Saraswati, Honorary secretary of IRIA, Karnataka state chapter presented the annual report of academic activities of state IRIA.
