To curb the menace of submission of fake marksheets in Delhi University colleges, the online verification of class 12th marksheets will commence for the 2012-2013 admission session.

The high powered committee of DU consisting of principals and senior officials had suggested this point among its other undergradute admission-related recommendations.  “With the recommendation of centralised online registration of forms from the 2012-2013 admission session put forward by the committee, we have also set up guidelines for the verification of marksheets at the time of their submission,” said Deepak Malhotra, chairman of the high powered committee.

According to Malhotra, the task of verifying marksheets is possible as the Central and State boards have started uploading marksheets on their website.

“Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and few state boards put up marksheets on their websites. We already have a tie-up with CBSE. Now, we need to take permission from the state boards,” said Malhotra.

For students coming from states where board marksheets are not uploaded on their websites, a system to write to them for verification will be put in  place.

“The University will set clear directions for the college authorities to keep a tab on students in cases where a written request for verification is sent,”added Malhotra.

A DU official said that the verification of marksheets during admissions will not be a tedious process.

Verifying marks

“Whatever marksheets are submitted we just need to put the roll number online and check if the marks match with the submitted ones. After verification, if any cases of fake marksheets are found, then lapses would be on the part of the boards,” said the official.

All efforts are being made to speed up the verification procedure for the coming admission session, a senior official said.

“Such cases are alarming. It is complicated to find out if the marksheets submitted are genuine. Students come from various states, some state boards upload online marksheets, some don't,” said the official.
