Thirty-one employees of the North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) have been suspended for causing a loss of Rs 1.21 crore by tampering with  the electronic ticketing machines.

Following an investigation by Gulbarga Divisional Controller Munihalappa, the corporation found that the conductors and other staff had tampered with the software of the ticketing machine. This helped them swindle money from the corporation by submitting false information about ticket sales. The investigation has revealed that the staff had managed to cheat the corporation of Rs 23 lakh in Chincholi depot and Rs 98 lakh in Humnabad depot.

Fifteen conductors and two second division assistants in Chincholi, and 13 conductors and one second division assistant in Humnabad have been suspended.

Most of the suspended are permanent employees and the corporation has frozen their allowances.
