An eight-year-old boy died after he fell inside a septic tank behind a Municipal Corporation of Delhi toilet at Kalyanpuri in east Delhi, police said on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Arun, a resident of Trilokpuri. He was missing since Wednesday evening after he went out to play near his house.

His father Ajay Kumar, a labourer, had later approached police following which a case was lodged at Kalyanpuri police station and an investigation taken up.

On Thursday morning, one of Arun’s slippers was found near the tank at Trilokpuri Block 9. Soon people gathered at the spot and found Arun in the tank.

He was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in Khichripur, where he was declared brought dead

“The tank is 10-feet deep and there is running water inside, which is why the child drowned. By the time the rescue team reached for help, he had already died. Some construction work was going on in the area, due to which the tank was kept open,” a police official said.

Police have registered a case under section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and are probing the matter.

“We are investing the case further to establish culpability. Action will be taken against those found responsible for the death,” the official added.

The kid is survived by his father Ajay, mother Sohna, a sister and a brother.
