Airtel goof up: No compensation yet

Kailash, who is from Chennai, was working in Bangalore when he was picked up by the Pune police for allegedly carrying derogatory contents against Chhatrapati Shivaji in the Orkut community portal. From a complaint by a local BJP leader from Pune, the Maharashtra police began a search for the person.

Airtel was asked to furnish details of the IP number used for posting the contents. Airtel reportedly told police that it was Lakshmana Kailash from Bangalore who had posted it. On the basis of the information, Lakshmana was picked up from his Bangalore residence.

However, further investigation revealed that it was not Lakshmana but Kiran Reddy who posted the material through a cyber cafe at Koramangala. Police arrested Reddy  and freed Lakshmana. The Maharashtra Human Rights Commission which took up the case suo motu directed Airtel, which was responsible for the goof-up, to pay a compensation of Rs two lakh to Lakshmana.

However, till now, the techie has not received the amount,he told mediapersons.
