Some teachers were caught cheating at examination centres in the state. Invigilation officials recovered huge quantity of cheating material including books, guides and other things from centres in Pratapgarh and Jaunpur districts on Saturday during an examination for ‘shiksha mitra’ or contractual teachers, according to reports.

Over a dozen of shiksha mitras were caught on Saturday using unfair means during an examination conducted for their elevation to the post of permament teachers.

In Pratapgarh district the teachers carried guide books and other material at the general knowledge exam, sources said.

Similarly at an examination centre in Jaunpur district, the officials recovered huge quantity of cheating material. The officials were shocked to see almost all the examinees were using unfair means.

“From outside it appeared that everything was normal but once the officials stepped inside the class rooms they found such a huge quantity of cheating material that they had to call for help to collect and pack the material,” sources said.

The basic education officer has written to the education department to cancel the examination conducted on Saturday. The state government had planned to make the shiksha mitras as permanent teachers. They will be trained for two years and after successful completion of training they could be absorbed as primary teachers.

Organised gang

The practice of cheating is not uncommon in the state. There are organised gangs that charge the students a hefty amount for providing them cheating material.
The gangs have been emboldened after the return of the SP rule as the the party had in the past opposed using stringent measures to check copying. It also opposed use of strict law to deal with the examinees using unfair means.
