'Strive for 100 pc literacy rate in district'

Speaking at the International Literacy Day organised by Directorate of Loka Shikshana, Zilla Panchayat and District Literacy Committee here at Government Junior College premises, he said “education is essential for the growth of a country. Everyone should be educated to build a healthy society.”

“The total literacy campaign commenced 15 years ago. However, total literacy was not achieved till today. Failure to pay honourarium to motivators and lack of maintenance of TV sets, textbooks for the literacy campaign have led to the failure of the campaign” he added.

There is a need to start the literacy campaign once again. Officials and elected representatives should see that motivators are paid on time.
Bopaiah directed the officials to see that the district achieves hundred per cent literacy during the next International literacy Day.
Deputy Commissioner K H Ashwathanarayana Gowda, Zilla Panchayat CEO Mirja Akbarulla, BEO Mariswamy and others were present.
