PU lecturers flay Kageri; threaten boycott

Yet again, pre-university lecturers have threatened to boycott the ongoing second year PU valuation, if the State government does not consider to hike their salaries by April 12.

Their protest follows a remark made by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri who had said that it was not proper for PU lecturers to set a deadline at a time when ensuring drought relief in the State is a top priority.

On April 8, ahead of PU valuation, the lecturers had gone on strike demanding that the government consider their demand for pay hike immediately.

They had threatened to boycott the valuation if their demands were not met.

However, they went ahead with the valuation after the minister promised them that their demands will be met by April 12.

Reacting sharply to Kageri’s statements, the Karnataka State PU College Lecturers’ Association on Wednesday, flayed the minister for “going back on his words”.

Association general secretary Shakeel Ahmed said the lecturers would wait till Thursday evening as per the earlier deadline and would go on an indefinite strike from April 13 if their demands are not met.

“We will boycott the valuation if the government does not take a decision on April 12” he said.
