In two separate cases, elderly women were robbed in the city.

In the first incident that occurred on Wednesday night, a lonely woman was robbed of her valuables worth Rs one lakh including Rs 70,000 in cash at Halli Bogadi on the outskirts of the city.

Narasamma, 62, opened the door to two strangers around 11 pm. The duo enquired the woman about the whereabouts of the residents of the house in the ground floor.

When the woman replied in negative, they asked for water.

Much before the woman could reply, came another request from the strangers: “Can you dial this number?”

The woman had just begun to walk into the house, when the two followed her and gagged her mouth with the edge of her saree.

One among them ran inside and brought a knife only to issue a threat.

The duo ransacked a trunk, only to find wads of currency notes, an old fashioned ‘Daabu’ (belt made of gold worn by women) and other articles.

The woman who runs a chit fund business had kept the amount collected from the investors and also her commission amount in the trunk.

Saraswatipuram police have registered a case.

The victim has been identified as Susheela.

Susheela was talking with one of her relative in front of her house when a bike-borne rider yanked off the chains weighing 80 grams.
