The commission agents of grain market went on a strike on Saturday to protest against the Haryana government decision to impose a ban on purchase of wheat from Punjab farmers.

The district administration of Ambala directed procurement agencies not to purchase wheat brought by farmers from Punjab.

Due to shortage of storage space, the Haryana government had put a ban on procurement of wheat from Uttar Pradesh farmers.

Protesting agents did not allow procurement agencies to purchase wheat at the grain market.

Many farmers coming from villages of Ambala could not sell their crop.

Around 75 per cent of the wheat in the grain market comes from the villages of Punjab, said Dooni Chand, president of Ambala Anjamadi Arthiya Association Danipur.

"If this order is not withdrawn the farmers and the commission agents will be hit hard," he added.
