Changed CET dates irk students

Last Updated 17 April 2012, 20:16 IST

The Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional courses which was earlier scheduled for May 3 and 4 will now be conducted on May 21 and 22.

The AIEEE examination will be conducted between May 7 and May 26. While the BITSAT exam will be held between May 10 and June 9. Students who have registered for the examination months ago are furious about the changed CET timetable, as it clashes with other entrance examination for professional courses.

Earlier, CET and Comed-K examination were to be conducted in the first week of May, and hence a majority of students had opted for dates in May last week for AIEEE and BITSAT examinations. The students thought they had ample time to prepare for the entrance examinations.

Different syllabi

Moreover, as the syllabi of AIEEE, BITSAT and CET are different, students will have to invest more time in preparing for the exams.

Annoyed with the changed timetable, Shreya Arora said: “ It is unfair that political developments and lecturers’ strike are disrupting our studies and or having a negative impact on our career.”

Highlighting the burden imposed by the rescheduled timetable, Arjun Anil, a student of Christ College, said: “I have slated my AIEEE exam for May 19. Now with the changed timetable, the exam falls closer to CET exam, thus making it tough to prepare for both the examinations.”

When asked about the inconvenience caused by the rescheduled timetable, Rashmi Mahesh, Commissioner of Department of PUE, told Deccan Herald that students will not face any hassles, as the PU Board has got clearance from the CBSE for the changed dates.
