The Lokayukta police on Wednesday trapped Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Commercial Taxes (Recovery) S N Somanal and inspector Y B Raddera, while they were allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the owner of a hotel in the city.

Somanal and Raddera had raided Durga Residency belonging to Nitesh Kumar Bali Shahu on April 10 and had seized a few documents.

Somanal told Nitesh Kumar that he should bribe him, failing which he would have to pay heavy tax.  Kumar contacted the Lokayukta police and apprised them of the incident and lodged a complaint.

Acting on the directions of the Lokayukta police, Kumar visited the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, equipped with a voice recorder. Somanal asked Nitesh to give two cheques for Rs 15,000 and Rs 14,356. He also asked him to pay a sum of Rs 50,000 as bribe.

After analysing the contents of the voice recorder, the Lokayukta officers registered a complaint on April 17.
