BU examination adalat to commence on Apr 26

Last Updated 20 April 2012, 20:17 IST

At long last the much-promised ‘Examination Adalat’ of Bangalore University (BU) will start functioning on April 26.

The Adalat was touted as an appellate body that would hear students’ complaints on discrepancies in examination results declared before the OMR question-cum-answer sheets were introduced in 2009. BU proposed the ‘Adalat’ as early as in 2010, but its establishment was delayed for reasons best known to the varsity.

In December 2011, BU announced that the ‘Adalat’ would start functioning in January 2012. The varsity, however, missed the deadline. Finally, it has announced the launch of the ‘Adalat’. Still, many important things have to be done. For example, the varsity has not yet appointed a retired district judge to head the Adalat.

According to T R Subramanya, Registrar (Evaluation), the magistrate’s name would be short-listed on Saturday. “The process is on. All the requisites will be fulfilled before the Adalat becomes operational,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor, N Prabhu Dev, will inaugurate the Adalat at the Jyothi Auditorium, Central College campus at 11 am. The varsity has invited principals of affiliated colleges to the ceremony.

The Adalat will function at the Syndicate Hall, Central College campus, between 11 am and 4 pm on notified days.

The details for submission of grievances/complaints on examination-related issues can be obtained from the varsity’s legal cell located at the Central College campus.
The affiliated colleges will be informed of the dates of hearing of their grievances/complaints. For details, call 080-22961269/22212051.

Assistant registrars in the examination centres concerned will represent the university in the Adalat.
