'Tulu Bhavana' work gets underway in Mangalore

The construction work of ‘Tulu Bhavana’, a building exclusively meant for the activities of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, commence on Saturday. The foundation stone for the building work was laid nearly six months ago on October 1, 2011.

Flagging off the work, Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat said that the building will come up at a cost of Rs 4.9 crore. Of which, the government has already released Rs three crore to the Deputy Commissioner’s account. The DC’s office has deposited Rs one crore out of Rs three crore with the Public Works Department for the construction purpose.

With the grant in hand, the work should be carried out quickly, he said. He asked the concerned officers to ensure that the construction work of the building will be completed within a year and the building is inaugurated on the day of Akshaya Thadige next year.

Meanwhile, speaking about other developmental work, Bhat said that the tender process for the construction of Ranga Mandira at Bondel is in the final stage.

The district administration has earmarked Rs 15 crore for the project and the work will commence with in two months, he said.

Earlier, in his introductory remarks, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Umanath Kotian said the Tulu Bhavana will be built in 50,000 sq ft land and the building will portray the culture and tradition of Tulu Nadu.

The building will consist of a huge parking lot, Tulu Academy office, a hall for organising cultural and literary programme and a floor for museum and exhibiting the works of Tulu literature, culture etc.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, former Academy President Sitharam Kulal and others were present.
